Together Is Now Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Relationship.

We present a challenge for those in enduring partnerships who are fans of horror films: Settle in with your partner and stream Together. The 2025 indie hit just made its streaming debut on the Hulu service. Outwardly, it could look like standard body horror, but beneath Together exists a intense meditation about the ways we decide to love each other.

An Introductory Film Delving into The Nuances of Love

Together represents the first full-length movie for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, partners that have been together for a decade. United in marriage in real life in 2017, the two stars bring a particular energy to their portrayals, masterfully depicting both the good and bad of a committed partnership.

The plot commences when Tim and Millie move from the urban environment to the countryside for her career. A somewhat stereotypical narrative setup, admittedly, but that’s primarily where the cliches conclude. Together evolves into as much a examination of mental states of the partnership as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While hiking near their rural residence, a violent storm occurs, and the two fall into an hole in the earth. After being trapped overnight there and managing to escape, a strange force takes hold of the couple. This force induces a supernatural closeness between them that goes far beyond emotional intimacy.

The whole movie is a slow burn of scares, blending moments of hallucinatory nightmares, disturbing (but never too gross) physical transformations, and surprisingly comedic exchanges (sometimes in the middle of something grotesque). The director weaves these elements together neatly and wraps them up in a consistently growing atmosphere of fear.

Complex Characterizations

A large part of Together is exclusively Brie and Franco, and they deftly portray manifold depths to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Her self-assurance and feeling of intimacy is deteriorating due to a emotional and physical gap. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his hesitance to focus on anything other than his failing musical ambitions gradually emerges.

Conversely, Tim experiences isolation and separated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve left the city and removed from his support system. He fears the concept of completely losing his sense of self in his partner. This fear is further exacerbated by the fact he does not operate a vehicle and needs Millie for getting around.

The film's most intelligent aspect in Together avoids making Tim or Millie the clear bad guy.

Tim and Millie confront the sort of issues that come with most partnerships after ten years. Fundamentally, they still love one another. They find humor with each other, provide solace, and share intimately at times. But below this facade, there’s an unavoidable feeling of questioning about their future together.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the otherworldly presence in Together represent these anxieties of unhealthy attachment and totally devoting oneself to another person, the symbolism does not come across as clumsy or pretentious. Instead, these visceral horror elements offer a ideal counterpart to the character-driven drama. Both the horror and the drama work together symbiotically.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about enmeshed dynamics. It has been said that unattached audience members have seen the movie as a compelling reason for avoiding commitment. Conversely, some couples experiencing tension found that the film ended up guiding them to resolve their issues.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own interpretation could function as a telling indicator of how you view relationships. Will the finale inspire a sense of discomfort and fear, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you see yourself in one of the characters and scream at your TV, or simply look at your other half and say, “I’d do that for you”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an exploration you can experience right now.
